HC, gold cuvette, fancy white enamel SS impressed dial with yellow and blue markings, extensive gold foil decoration, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, non-magnetic alloy balance and hairspring, quilted pattern nickel damascene, s#2747889. Gross weight of assembled watch 87.0 dwt (135.2 g). A beautifully finished top grade movement; Waltham's Model 1872 "American Watch Co." grade is considered by many collectors to represent the peak of movement finish quality and aesthetics among American industrial watchmaking. This particular example is notable for having a non-magnetic alloy balance wheel and hairspring which is a feature that is only found among a very small fraction of this grade's production.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, very few micro-fine scratches, tiny nick to plate surface above mid-point of s#, few very small bits of oxide to winding wheels, underside of balance wheel has been inspected and confirmed to have correctly matching s# to mvt; nearly flawless dial with short scratch at upper perimeter above 12, few minuscule pinpoint edge nicks under bezel, pinpoint dark spot above upper-right of seconds-register which is an as-made finish imperfection; excellent hands; case shows little wear, very slight shallow ding right of front center evident as a slight ripple to reflected light, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows ample wear with ridge break; good glass crystal.
